" The use of assistive technology requires support, from getting to know the capabilities of the device, to designing content suitable for each individual user. ” (Vesna Penjalov, director of DV Latica)
In mid-September 2018, a two-day practical training on the use of assistive technology was organized for employees of the Latica Kindergarten in Zadar.
Kindergarten Latica is a specialized pedagogical institution that implements various special educational and rehabilitation programs for children of early and preschool age with developmental disabilities. Kindergarten promotes inclusion and promotes its realization. The mission of the kindergarten is to provide the conditions for the best possible quality of life for a child with developmental disabilities in his environment, in the environment of his most natural and important community - the family.
Today, most children are familiar with new technologies and it is easier to motivate a child if you include them in his activities. The education started with practical work on an interactive (smart) board with adequate materials, suitable for every child, regardless of age or difficulty.
The software on the interactive board facilitated the selection of targeted and structured activities that encourage the development of children in various fields, such as concentration, visual attention, auditory attention, visual perception, encouraging interaction, communication, etc. The software Boardmaker and ABC Maestro caused special interest .
The education of the employees was based on an individualized approach, regardless of different levels of prior knowledge and experience. The goal was to help all employees become independent when using assistive technology in their work with preschool children.
Kindergarten Latica, in cooperation with E-Glas and the Belinda Dobrec Association, actively participated in the design of the new manual "Games and activities with the help of assistive technology", which will be published at the ATAAC 2018 conference .
We want to thank DV Latica once again for the exceptional cooperation and hospitality! We believe that our continued cooperation will enable the development of many new projects that will help children and people with disabilities achieve a higher level of independence and quality of life.
